IN THE SURROUNDINGS

In the immediate vicinities of Olive Tree Suites there is plenty to do.  Many places can be reached just walking or by mountain bike.
Here are a few suggestions:

◦ Visit to the birth place of Leonardo da Vinci in Anchiano, approx. 3km away (longer by car).  You could combine this visit with a walk to the hamlet of Faltognano 1km further away.  Here nature and buildings have remained still for many centuries.  An extra bonus is the tiny grocery shop and bar.  You could ask them for a glass of wine, a few slices of local ham “prosciutto crudo toscano”, and some freshly baked bread (always fresh, even on Sundays) and just sit on their terrace outside where you can enjoy a most spectacular view.  If you enjoy some freshly laid free-range eggs this is the place to get them.

◦ Visit the historical town of Vinci, 4km away.  Here, besides the Leonardo museum and the Leonardo library, you can visit the historic castle and church and the ancient town within the fortified walls.

◦ Visit to Porciano 1km, Papiano 3km and San Baronto 4km.  You can reach these three hamlets in close succession from Olive Tree Suites when you leave walking or by mountain bike by the back gate through the ancient pathway that connected Vinci to San Baronto at Leonardo’s times.  There are several historic places to visit, churches, towers, mills and villas.

Montecatini Terme

Visit the Balduccio farm next door.
They produce very good olive oil and an
excellent wine “Marze nostrane”
(everything biological).
On Monday afternoons they held
the most pleasant wine-tasting sessions
from 2pm to 6pm where you’ll be given
a journey through Italy’s wines
(every week a different selection)
with a taste of approx. 36 different bottles that fortunately you can alternate to
bites of pizzas freshly prepared and baked
by Eva, the lady of the house,
while Andreas entertains all the guests
in German, Italian, as well as English and French.
The charge for a wine-tasting afternoon is euro 25.00.

These are just a few things that make
life worth living for.
If you need any information
about local restaurants, bars, stores,
Natalia and Alberto will always be pleased
to give you suggestions and recommendations.
